MedScan won the Dream Big and Create More Cheers award with AB InBev.
OVERVIEW
MedScan is a mobile and website-based scanning software that provides details on medication and the risk of Adverse Drug Reactions.
With its unique scanning and interaction-checking modules, MedScan can prevent the 1.6 million Adverse Drug reactions that occur today. It can warn a user about the reaction before it occurs and connects them with help as necessary. Best of all, MedScan does this all instantaneously. So, it is very convenient and accessible for everyone at all times.
I worked on the design and UI/UX of this app and the website for this project, I used Figma to develop a prototype which we used to scale the web app.
To build MedScan, we utilized HTML, CSS, TensorFlow , Google Cloud, ML, Figma, and more.
RELEVANT RESEARCH FINDINGS
- Every year there are more than 2,216,000 severe cases of Adverse Drug Reactions, making ADR's the 4th-6th leading cause of death.
- The main cause of ADRs is the unintended simultaneous consumption of prescription medications and OTC medications
- The percentage of Americans taking more than 5 prescription medications has nearly tripled in the past 20 years (CDC)
- Infants and very young children are at high risk of ADRs due to their capacity to metabolize the drug are not fully evaluated.

WHAT'S NEXT FOR MEDSCAN
We are proud of being able to integrate so many functional components into our project in the limited time we have. Even more than that, we are proud of creating a solution that can help resolve such a widespread problem. Additionally, we are proud of being able to collaborate with our skills in order to build this application within the given time frame while also having group members working in 3 different time zones.
- Include an integration system for doctors to upload their prescriptions for patients.
- Create a system that checks the inventory for the user's medicine in other pharmacies around them.
In collaboration with Joey Koh, Cyra Anindya, and Alesha Reeva Khokhar, I worked on the website's design and UI/UX along with the app.
